Humunga Stache

11.10.2009

Okay, okay, I know the whole mustache trend is getting a little tired, but sadly – I just can’t get enough of it. And this Humunga Stache Dog Chew Toy made me literally laugh out loud. Now if only I had a dog.

F You, Cat!

I can often be heard uttering these exact words throughout the hallways of my house. Typically at about 4 am when the cat just must be fed. Stupid cat. But that’s why I love her, I suppose. But not all people go about the 4 am wake-up call so easily and for you, there’s F U, Cat. Much like the similar well known site, F U, Penguin, these sites are all in good fun and mean no harm to anyone. Or cats. Or other animals of any kind. But they are pretty damn funny to read.

Here are a couple other, equally funny, harmless to cats websites you might enjoy.

I don’t have a dog, but if I did, I would most definitely be carrying it’s shit in these biodegradable Poop Bags by Olive. These bags are made from corn starch and vegetable oil, are certified 100% biodegradable and compost in as little as 40 days. If you ask me – that’s some cool shit! Heh heh.

I’m doing just about anything for a distraction from work today and this video had me laughing out loud at my desk.

I came across this story and thought it was just the sweetest thing. I’m always so touched when I see stories like this. Sometimes I still think I should’ve stayed the course to work with animals…

A baby owl is kept looking spruce thanks to her friend Sophie the spaniel, who licks her clean every day. The pair have become inseparable since Bramble, the baby eagle owl, was taken in at a bird of prey centre.

Sophie, three, used her maternal nature to give Bramble a quick clean as a chick. Now the bird flies into the main house for a spruce-up every day and sits while Sophie licks her feathers and beak.

Conservationist Sharon Bindon, 43, who runs the bird of prey centre in Liskeard, Cornwall said: ‘We have many birds of prey and Sophie has been brought up alongside all of them but they normally stay outside the house.

‘But baby owls are born without feathers, so we had to keep Bramble indoors at first. On the first day of having her they were on the settee together and Sophie put her motherly instinct to work and began to clean her.

‘From that day on Bramble has had the cleanest beak in the country.’

Ms Bindon added: ‘Ever since Sophie first cleaned her, Bramble had flapped around to be let out of her cage each day so she can be washed again.

‘Bramble has now stared to fly around and we’ve put her in the aviary but she swoops back all the time for a clean. It’s a friendship that will last forever.’

Pet Airways. Plain and simple.

Pet Airways is a pet-only airline dedicated to pet-friendly travel.  On Pet Airways your pets fly in the MAIN cabin, not some cold, dank cargo hold. Their motto is that pets aren’t packages, they’re “pawsengers.” The travel experience works like this: drop your pet off at a special “pet lounge” at (or nearby) the airport before your flight, the pets are then boarded into individual, secure pet carriers and placed in the lighted and climate-controlled cabin. Designated “pet attendants” monitor your pet every 15 minutes during the flight to make sure they are safe and comfortable (they even monitor their bathroom breaks). At the end of the flight, pets are transferred to another pet lounge where you pick them up. A pet attendant will remain with your pet until you arrive, even if your flight is delayed.

The inaugural flight from New York to Los Angeles is scheduled for July 14 and will cost you about $149 each way. Not cheap, but then again, pretty reasonable if you consider the first class treatment Fluffy will be getting. The airline hopes to expand its service to 25 continental cities within the next few years and cater to exotic pets, as well as to dogs and cats.

Virtual dog.

03.27.2009

We have been talking about getting a dog for a long time. This has yet to happen for any different number of reasons, the main one being our freakishly neurotic cat who periodically and chronically urinates on things. I don’t think (nope, I’m pretty sure) I can only handle one peeing animal at a time. That, and between me, the mister and the wee one, we can’t come to a mutual decision on the type of dog. Other than no purse-sized dogs, that is. Yet somehow, these are the conversations we continue to have despite the fact that a) we are never home, b) have no time to care for or walk a dog and c) have close to negative dollars in order to purchase it’s necessary food, bedding and supplies.

So I’ve decided that instead of getting an actual dog, this is a good way to get started on our mission to maybe getting a dog. Either that or scare the crap out of myself thinking there’s a giant animal in the house. Vinyl Silhouettes will take your photos and turn them into high quality decorative stickers. Be it a dog, a kid, your dream car, or even yourself – your imagination is what makes it. Now, what kind of dog do we make the silhouette out of….?

Special thanks to Jaime over at Design Milk for sharing her virtual dog.
